THANJAVUR BRIHADEESWARAR TEMPLE

During the first decade of the eleventh century the chola king RAJA RAJA CHOLAN 1 constructed the BRIHADEESWARAR TEMPLE at THANJAVUR in 1010AD.It was initially known as RAJARAJESHWAR temple. The temple is part of the UNESCO world heritage site. The temple is built of 130000 tons of granite. There was no quarry within a 100 km radius. This temple is known as the LARGEST SHIV LINGA in INDIA.The temple is an excellent example of the temple crafts of INDIA and SPECIMEN of chola dynasty architecture. The most shocking and amazed thing in the temple is the SHADOW of the UPPER CIRCLE not seen yet.It proved that the TECHONOLOGY that present today is less then the things that happened in the PAST.
